Overload The Muscles

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Fitness Tip: The last rep of any set should be very difficult – Remember that the point of resistance training is to OVERLOAD the muscles. Muscles will only get stronger if they need to due to progressive training. But make sure you are advanced in your training program and are well prepared for overloading by being engaged in a on going exercise program. Participants at a Beginner and Intermediate level or those who had longer breaks in their program are advised to first consult a fitness specialist before engaging in intense overloading of the muscle.

Exercise of the day: Ball Forward Bend – The Ball Forward Bend will give you a great low back stretch as you use your fitness ball for stabilization.

“I Don’t Want To Bulk Up”

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

If I had a dollar for every time I hear that…

Memré's Bench Attempt

Memré's Bench Attempt

Ladies – do not be afraid of lifting weights. Unless you are taking anabolic steroids and/or are involved in a heavy lifting program specifically intended to increase muscle mass, you are in NO danger of  ”bulking up”. Period. If you want what is most commonly referred to as a sculpted body, you must add some strength training to your regimen. A 100% cardio plan will actually deplete that muscle that you want to make you look sculpted. Notice in the photo of my bench attempt I don’t have huge, hulking arms, and I was about to press 115 pounds!
